After a month of obstructions, China finally allowed some containers to pass through the Nepal-China border at Tatopani and bring goods to Nepal.
However, Sindhupalchok Chief District Officer Beda Nidhi Khanal shared that there is still confusion about whether China has opened the border for regular trade or not.
“Some trucks have arrived, but we have to discuss with the Chinese side whether it will be regular or not,” he said.
As China continues to block the border ahead of Dashain, the biggest festival in Nepal, traders and sellers are worried about supply deficit, and its subsequent impact on the prices of good. Due to weak supply of goods from China, the price has already increased in the Nepali market.
On August 10, China closed both the border points in Tatopani and Rasuwagadhi due to increase in the number of Covid-19 infections in the Tibetan Autonomous Region of China.
However, even before that, China was only allowing 4-5 containers pass through into Nepal.
