Rastriya Swatantra Party to leave government but continue its support

The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has decided to quit the government and withdraw its ministers from the Cabinet.

However, the party, holding the fourth largest majority in the House of Representatives (HoR), has stated to continue supporting the government.

RSP Chair Rabi Lamichhane held a press conference on Sunday afternoon to unveil the decisions of the central committee meeting today where he informed about the party leaving the government.

Lamichhane said the ministers from his party will submit their resignation to the Prime Minister by this evening.

Lamichhane, who was elected from Chitwan-2, lost his post as a lawmaker and minister after being found that he had not reinstated his Nepali citizenship even though he had abandoned his status as US citizen.

After Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal took the stance of not giving the home ministry to RSP Chairman Rabi Lamichhane or any other lawmaker of the party for that matter, the party had called several meetings about exiting from the government but had delayed their decisions till now.
