Shutdown Enforcers Arrested

Normal life across the country has been affected today due to a general strike enforced by the Nepal Communist Party (Dahal-Nepal Group).

According to the Nepal Police, vehicular movement is low across the country today than in other regular days. Police Spokesperson and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Basanta Bahadur Kunwar shared that as many as 80 shutdown enforcers have been detained from different parts of the Kathmandu Valley.

Among the detainees are NCP standing committee member Asta Laxmi Shakya, Hitmman Shakya and Amrita Thapa Magar. The vehicular flow is gradually increasing on the roads of the Valley now.

A taxi was torched in Samakhusi this morning, SSP Kunwar said, adding except this incident no any untoward event has been reported so far.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has urged all to operate their vehicular enterprises, business, industries and professional works without any hesitation. Necessary security arrangement has been made to ward off any untoward incidents and obstructions to the operation of business and industries, the ministry said in a press release on Wednesday.

The ministry has also urged all sides concerned to not carry out any violent activities that would undermine the law and order and citizens’ right to enjoy their freedoms without any obstructions.

Legal actions would be taken against those found involved in the incidents of vandalism, arson and arbitration in a way to incite violence and breach law and order, the ministry said.

The NCP has enforced nationwide shutdown in protest of the government’s act of administering oath of office to the chiefs and members of constitutional bodies without parliamentary hearing.
