Six killed in Bajhang jeep accident


Six people died in a road accident involving a passenger jeep in Tufan Danda of Mashta Rural Municipality-1, Bajhang on Wednesday afternoon.

The accident occurred when the jeep (SuPra 01-001 Cha 117) heading towards Khetkot of Mashta-2 from headquarters Chainpur, veered off the road.

The jeep fell 200 meters down the road and got stuck in a ditch, according to the Information Officer of the District Police Office, Ramesh Dutt Awasthi. It is not clear how many people were travelling in the jeep at the time of the accident. Six bodies have been recovered so far and it is not certain how many people have been injured.

The deceased are yet to be identified. Nepal Police, Nepal Army, Armed Police Force and locals are rescuing the injured and bringing them to District Hospital Simkhet.

The passengers were returning after observing seeing the Sildevi fair at the headquarters, Chainpur. Rescue work has been difficult as the accident falls in a steep area, Ward President of Ward No. 1 of the Rural Municipality, Ramchandra Rokaya said. (RSS)
