As the supreme court ruled in favor of Media Hub Pvt Ltd, Nepali football fans will have to pay extra money to watch FIFA World Cup on television.
On Wednesday, the joint bench of Justices Prakash Kumar Dhungana and Manoj Kumar Sharma ordered not to continue the short-term interim order issued earlier on November 22. This means, Media Hub will now be able to collect extra money from viewers to broadcast the World Cup football games.
Media Hub has obtained exclusive broadcast rights to the FIFA World Cup and has decided to charge Rs500 extra from customers, stating that domestic advertisements do not cover their costs.
Supreme Court had previously provided interim order to television channels that they shall not charge their subscribers any extra money. However, the interim order was revoked today
The 2022 FIFA Qatar World Cup kicks off on November 20 with host-country Qatar taking on Ecuador.
