In order to attract thrill seekers from Nepal and neighbouring India, the Tourism Division Office of Banke has initiated rafting in the Rapti River.
Launched in collaboration with the Rapti Sonari Rural Municipality, the 27-kilometre Kusum Bairiya-Agaiya rafting stretch was inaugurated by Lumbini Province’s Minister for Tourism, Rural and Urban Development Dilli Bahadur Chaudhary on Friday. Minister Chaudhary along with Rapti Sonari Chairman Lahuram Tharu, Vice-chair Dhani Kumari Khatri, Tourism Division Office chief Madhav Gyawali and member of Lumbini’s Planning Commission Dr. Damodar Bhusal, among others, also rafted in the river on the occasion.
Speaking after the inauguration, Chaudhary remarked that the province had not been able to lure tourists despite possessing numerous attractive sites and hoped that the beginning of rafting would change that.
He also said that the provincial government has adopted policies to develop all the tourist destinations of Lumbini.
Talking to The Rising Nepal, Gyawali said that the rafting would also support other businesses like hotels, restaurants and transportation.
