The main opposition CPN-UML has elected nearly 85 per cent delegates for its 10th general convention scheduled to be held at Chitwan from November 26-28.
Issuing a statement on Sunday, central publicity department chief Yogesh Bhattarai said that 85 per cent representatives had been elected from the constituencies, central department, provincial committees, district committees, special district committees, people’s organizations and Nepali diaspora abroad.
The process of delegate selection has already been completed in 58 districts, the statement read.
Mentioning that the process was underway to nominate the delegates from the remaining districts, Bhattarai informed that the delegates were elected unanimously in most of the districts.
Delegates are selected openly and from the quotas for women and oppressed communities, as per the criteria set by the party.
UML has directed all its committees to select the representatives and send the details to the party central office by November 16.
Delegates are yet to be selected from five districts — Taplejung, Sunsari, Rasuwa, Rukum and Dailekh.
The statement further informed that the delegates had also been selected from the central advisory council, people’s organizations, state committees, state liaison committees and foreign coordination committees.
Meanwhile, our Banke correspondent reported that the CPN-UML nominated general convention representatives unanimously in the district.
UML district chair Nirak Gurung informed that representatives were nominated as district secretariat, municipal and ward committee chairs involved had been mandated to do so.
From constituency 1, central advisor Devraj Bhar, province committee member Surya Dhakal and Prem Bhusal were nominated in open category while Basanti Adhikari and Bharati Khanal were nominated from women category.
From constituency 2, chair Gurung, Ashok Karmacharya, Halim Shasha were elected in open category and Bijayaa Dhital was selected from women category.
From constituency 3, vice-chair Kismat Kachhyapati, secretary Ratna Khatri, Ghana Nath Khanal and Bhumisaraa Dhital were nominated and Nanda Bishwakarma and Pujhan Bishwakarma were nominated from Dalit category.
Likewise, Nepali Congress ward executive committees and constituency committees were unanimously elected in 52 wards out of 82.
The local level general convention was started from Saturday.
