UML Objects To Lipulek Road Expansion By India

The main opposition party CPN-UML has condemned the construction of infrastructures, including roads by the Indian government in the Nepali territory of Lipulek.
Issuing a statement on Tuesday, Rajan Bhattarai, chief of the UML’s Foreign Affairs Department, condemned the move of India to expand Lipulek road to Kailash Manasarovar.

The structure was built against the agreement reached between the two countries during the meeting of the Nepal-India joint commission held to resolve issues, including border dispute through diplomatic channel, the statement read.

The statement also recalled that Kalapani, Lipulek and Limpiyadhura are an integral part of Nepal, and the political map was made public last year incorporating these territories.
UML has also called for immediate halting of road construction and other activities that threaten Nepal’s sovereignty, geographical integrity and dignity.

Asking the government to be serious about the issue of nationality, UML also urged the government to take necessary initiatives to resolve the issue via diplomatic channel.
