The meeting of the Standing Committee of the ruling CPN-UML was held today at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar.
Foreign Minister and CPN-UML spokesperson Pradeep Kumar Gyawali said that discussions on the ongoing unhealthy competitions and disagreements were held in the meeting.
Prior to this, a 10-member task force was formed with Standing Committee member Subash Chandra Nembang as the coordinator in order to resolve the intra-party dispute. The task force included five leaders each from Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and leader Madhav Kumar Nepal’s faction.
“However, as the party has punished some leaders of Nepal-led faction, the task force might be restructured now,” said spokesperson Gyawali.
“No discussions were held in the meeting regarding taking action against 12 leaders of Nepal’s faction. However, the meeting concluded that the CPN-UML would be resilient to the extent possible to maintain party unity,” Gyawali added.
He further informed that talks on prevention and control of COVID-19 were also held in the meeting. “Similarly, the actions of the opposition in the HoR dissolution case which is sub-judice at the Supreme Court were also held in the meeting,” he added.
