UML’s 10th National Congress Preparations In Full Swing

The main opposition, CPN-UML, is gearing up for its 10th National Congress scheduled to be held in Chitwan from November 26-28.
The main management committee of the UML 10th National Congress said that the preparations for the National Congress were moving ahead in full swing.
UML is preparing to organise an inaugural session of the National Congress on the bank of Narayani River in Bharatpur and closing session in Sauraha.

UML Chitwan chairperson Parvati Rawal said more than 500,000 party members would participate in the inaugural session of the National Congress. Of them, more than 100,000 would be from Chitwan alone, said Rawal.
“We are preparing to get more than 500,000 participants in the inaugural session,” Rawal said, adding “Our preparations are focused on making the National Congress more civilised and systematic.”
Nepali Congress president and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur has also accepted invitation to attend and address the inaugural session.

Deputy leader of the UML Parliamentary Party Subas Nembang and Dr. Rajan Bhattarai handed over the invitation letter to PM Deuba on Friday and PM Deuba assured the two leaders to be present in the inaugural session, it was informed.
A podium is being constructed on the banks of the Narayani River for the inaugural session of the National Congress.
“Work is underway to build dais in four sections. The standing committee members along with party chairman KP Sharma Oli will sit in one dais, a separate dais will be prepared for the guests, another for central committee members and another for artists,” said Rawal.

In all, 50 volunteers have been deployed for the construction of the podium.
Similarly, a main management committee is also preparing to manage the hall of Seven Star Hotel in Sauraha for the closing session of the National Congress.
UML is also preparing to organise rallies from seven different places in Chitwan prior to the National Congress, including from central Bus Park, Aatpari, Hakimchowk, Chaubishkothi, Belchowk, Bishalchowk and Gaidakot of Bharatpur. The rallies will join the inaugural session of the National Congress.

No wall propaganda this time

Instead of using wall propaganda like in the past, the UML has laid an emphasis on digital propaganda as per the plan to make the convention environment-friendly.
Talking to The Rising Nepal Yogesh Bhattarai, Coordinator of the National Congress Publicity Committee, said that the party was preparing to make publicity by using information technology as much as possible.

“The publicity of the National Congress will be done by making digital displays in more than 100 places across the country,” said Bhattarai. “We have expedited the campaign by creating banners and video clips in Maithili, Bhojpuri, Awadhi, Tharu, Tamang, Chepang, Nepali and English languages,” he added.
At least 30 videos, audio clips and documentaries had been made for the publicity of the congress, he said, adding “UML is preparing to make full use of social networking sites, like Facebook, Tiktok and YouTube for publicity.”

Similarly, UML is organising a motorcycle rally across the country on November 23 to publicise the convention. A motorcycle rally will be organised on November 26 in Narayangarh asking people to join the inaugural session.
The UML is also preparing to set up welcome gates in major cities along the highway and different parts of Chitwan for publicity.

Invitations at every household
The UML has sent invitation letters to every household of the district asking denizens to participate in the inaugural session of the National Congress.
According to Tilak Ram Rimal, Secretary of the National Congress Publicity and Support Committee, the work of sending invitations to 150,000 households of Chitwan had already started.

Hotels are booked to accommodate participants
The party has booked hotels in Sauraha and other places in Chitwan to accommodate the delegates. Secretary General of the Regional Hotel Association Sauraha Gunaraj Thapaliya said that an agreement had been reached with the association to accommodate 3,500 people in Sauraha.

According to Rajendra Piya, a member of the National Congress Housing Management Committee, an additional 250 rooms were also booked at Bharatpur and Narayangarh.
“Most of the hotels in Sauraha and Bharatpur Narayangarh have been booked for the convention participants,” said Piya.
A total of 1,999 delegates will participate in the UML National Congress.

Invitation to political parties at home and abroad
UML has already invited the representatives of political parties from home and abroad as guests of the National Congress. It is said that everyone was invited by sending a letter.
According to Yogesh Bhattarai, leaders of some political parties from Asia had already expressed their commitment to attending the congress.
Representatives of foreign missions in Nepal have also been invited to the National Congress, he added.

UML decided not to raise funds for the National Congress by giving receipts. It has been said that the National Congress will be held by collecting voluntary support from within the party and its members.
The party has decided to charge its organised member a minimum of Rs. 100 as a levy to help arrange funds to organise its 10th National Congress.
The UML has renewed the party membership of 855,453. The committee has estimated the total cost at Rs. 75 million for the convention.
