Under Construction Bridge Costing Rs 21 Crore Collapses


A concrete bridge under construction over the Trishuli River connecting Thimura of Bharatpur Metropolitan City -1 and Devghat Rural Municipality of Tanahu has collapsed at 4 am this morning.

According to the locals, the bridge went down when it was all set to construct the steel structure after finishing the construction of the concrete structure.

Prem Lal Lamichhane, Chief District Officer (CDO) of Chitwan said that he has received information about the collapse of the bridge and work is underway to find out whose carelessness invited this casualty.

According to Krishna Raj Adhikari, Chief of Division Road Office Bharatpur, the construction agreement was initially signed with Elite, Adventurer and Indreni JV at a cost of Rs 160 million. And, the 216.8 million rupees investment cost rose up after the design review.

The bridge, which has four spans and an 80-meter steel truss structure, is 220 meters long.

According to Yogendra Kandel, head of the construction company, the work of concrete span on the bridge was completed. He admitted that he had received information that two spans had fallen in Kathmandu.
