US Acting Assistant Secretary Trudeau arrives in Kathmandu


United States Acting Assistant Secretary for Global Public Affairs, Elizabeth Kennedy Trudeau has arrived in Kathmandu today.

A press release from US State Department stated her primary focus will be US diplomatic missions on policy and countering misinformation and communication in democracy from Russia and the People’s Republic of China.

The US Department of State, issuing a statement on Tuesday, said that besides Nepal, Trudeau will travel to the United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, and the Kyrgyz Republic from September 28-October 9, 2022.

“Her 12-day trip will prioritise working with US diplomatic missions on policy and messaging priorities, including countering disinformation from Russia and the People’s Republic of China, ongoing US support to the people of Afghanistan, social equity, media freedom, and climate,” the statement reads.

In her visit to Nepal, she will hold separate meetings with the US Embassy officials and members of the Youth Council and civil society, as per the statement of the Embassy of the United States in Kathmandu.

In addition to this, on a press note by the US Department of State on Tuesday, Elizabeth will also hold meetings with media contacts, minority group activists, and Embassy exchange program alumni for discussions on disinformation and the media’s hand in maintaining democracy.

As per the insights, she will also tour Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) sites in Kathmandu.
