Visit Nepal Year 2020 stopped; Visit Nepal Decade to come in action

Nepal government has brought the concept of ‘Visit Nepal decade’ after it postponed the concept of Visit Nepal Year 2020 due to outbreak of coronavirus.

Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Yogesh Bhattarai, informed that the tourism promotion program will be done by announcing the Visit Nepal decade 2020-2030.

In a meeting with tourism ministers of seven states as well as the heads of municipalities in the ministry on Sunday, Bhattarai said, “The tourism year has been halt, now we will move ahead by creating plan for a decade.”

Visit Nepal Year 2020 was inaugurated on January 1, 2020 with the goal to bring in 2 million tourists. However, the tourism year was affected by the coronavirus outbreak in China which had a worldwide impact.

According to Ghanshyam Upadhyay, Joint Secretary at the Ministry, tourism is expected to accelerate as coronavirus gradually decreases. At that time, the government will proceed its plan ahead to bring in 3.5 million tourists annually, and increase tourism contribution to Nepal’s economy by 10 percent.

The Ministry of Tourism is preparing to formally proceed this campaign through the policies and programs in coming fiscal year.
