It was a comfortable night for Bayern as they kicked off their 2020/21 campaign with an emphatic 8-0 win over Schalke.
After Schalke missed a golden opportunity to force a shock lead, Bayern went ahead through Serge Gnabry who finished brilliantly after being put through by Joshua Kimmich.
It was 2-0 shortly after when Leon Goretzka fired a low drive past two desperate defenders, with Lewandowski making it three from the penalty spot after being fouled by Ozan Kabak.
Gnabry grabbed his second of the game with a simple finish after rounding Ralf Fahrmann, before completing his first ever Bundesliga hat-trick with another clinical counter attack.
Thomas Müller then volleyed home – from a Lewandowski rabona assist – to make it six, with new boy and former Schalke winger Leroy Sané making it seven to compile the visitors’ misery.
17-year-old Jamal Musiala made it 8-0 after beating two defenders to score at the near post – become Bayern’s youngest ever competitive goalscorer in the process.
The treble winners have continued where they left off. Unfortunately for Schalke, so have they.
