Nepal beat Scotland by five wickets


Nepal registered a five-wicket win over Scotland in the trilateral ODI series played under ICC World Cricket League 2 in Glasgow on Wednesday.

Nepal bounced back in the series after losing to Namibia by 40 runs in the first match. Nepal achieved the 145-run victory target in 25.1 overs losing five wickets. Nepali batter had the easy target on their sight after bowler dismissed Scotland for a lowly 144 score.

Opener Kushal Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh gave a decent start with a 47-run first wicket stand. After Bhurtel (28-ball 27) left the pitch, it was Aasif who guided Nepal closer to victory.

Sheikh clubbed his third ODI half-century to chip in with 62-ball 71 for Nepal. He smashed ten fences and a maximum to top score for Nepal.

Rohit Paudel remained not out with 31-ball 34. Paudel also completed his 1000 List A runs while steering Nepal back to the fifth position in League 2. Nepal now has 17 points from 18 matches. Second-placed Scotland has 30 points off 22 matches.

Gavin Main was the pick of the bowler for the home team with a three-wicket haul.

Put on to bat first, Scotland managed to score 144 runs being all out in 42.5 overs. Host Scotland tottered to 95-9 in 30 over after Nepal produced tight and disciplined bowling.

However, Gavin Main catapulted Scotland’s innings with his career-best knock of 59-ball 64. His not-out half-century knock includes seven boundaries and one six. He also put up a 49-run partnership with Hamza Tahir for the last wicket. Tahir was not with 43-ball 7.

Mark Watt (46-ball 17), Safyaan Sharif (26-ball 16) and Calum Macleod (21-ball 13) chipped in with a double-digit score for the home team.

To dismiss the home team for a low score, Nepal’s Sompal Kami and Mohammad Aadil Alam picked three wickets each.

Kami conceded 40 runs whereas Alam gave away 31 runs in their spell off 10 overs. Likewise, Captain Sandeep Lamichhane finished with a figure of 2-35. Karan KC and Dipendra Singh also dismissed one-one batter.
