
The newly elected Government of Nepal has decided to relieve 15 honorary consuls general from their positions, including three based in Australia. According to the decision made during today’s Cabinet meeting, Nepali Honorary Consul for New South Wales Sanjeev Sharma, Nepali Honorary Consul for Victoria Nirajan Gauli, and Nepali Honorary Consul for South Australia Dipak Dhamala have been removed from their positions.
According to information provided during a press conference organized at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after the Cabinet meeting, Dinesh Khadka, who had been appointed as the Honorary Consul for New Zealand in the Oceania region, has also been relieved from his post.
Similarly, honorary consuls in California, Seattle, Massachusetts, Klang Valley in Malaysia, Jakarta in Indonesia, Rehovot City in Israel, Nicosia in Cyprus, Bremen and Lower Saxony in Germany, Warsaw, Slovenia, and Malta have also been removed.
The new government led by PM Balendra Shah has also indicated that it intends to review and remove politically appointed positions within diplomatic and government institutions. The administration is said to be prioritising merit, professionalism, and institutional reform, while reconsidering a number of appointments made under previous governments on political grounds. Sources say the decision to remove honorary consuls and honorary consuls general from various countries is part of this broader policy direction.
