An image of the happy couple; the van they were travelling in, the route they were supposed to travel in.

An Australian man and an American woman, boyfriend and girlfriend, were to embark upon an epic road trip – ‘around the top half of the globe’ – seems like a dream road trip to do with your loved one – however, some ground shattering news has the families of the Australian and the American sent into shock, and inevitable sorrow.

Lucas Fowler was found dead alongside his girlfriend, Chynna Deese, on a remote stretch of the Alaska Highway, British Columbia under mysterious circumstance. Mr. Fowler, an Australian national, was working at a ranch in Canada, and Ms. Deese, an American national had joined Fowler in Canada to set off on the epic road trip around the ‘top half of the globe’. Mr. Fowler, from Hornsby, NSW, is the son of senior NSW police officer Inspector Stephen Fowler.

The stretch of road where the couple were found dead has been dubbed as ‘Highway of Tears’, more than 20 women have gone missing on the stretch since 1970. The deaths have gripped British Columbia with fears a serial killer is responsible, initially sparking further concern the couple’s deaths could be linked to the murderer.

“Investigators are asking to speak with anyone who may have been travelling in the area of Liard Hot Springs, including any camping areas, and on the Alaska Highway 97 between Sunday July 14, at 4pm, to Monday July 15, 8am,” Sergeant Janelle Shoihet said in a statement this morning.

Amazing Couple:

While the family, friends and the extended community mourn the loss of the couple, everyone is sharing beautiful stories of them:

Fowler’s family wrote on Facebook:

Ms Deese’s sister, Kennedy Deese, wrote on Facebook the pair were “homicide victims along a remote stretch of highway in Canada while on a road trip”.

“No further information is available at this time, please do not ask. They were bright and beautiful souls. We are all still in shock and heartbroken.”
