Nepali man dies of COVID-19 in New York

69-year- old Mahesh Amatya, a Nepali citizen living in New York, has died of coronavirus on Friday.

He was undergoing treatment at the Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in New York before he succumbed to COVID-19. He is the fifth Nepali to die of the coronavirus disease in the U.S in the past few weeks.

According to Tulsiram Acharya, vice-president of Ridgewood Nepali Society, the deceased was rushed to the hospital after he complained of breathing difficulties on Wednesday evening.

Amatya was originally from Kathmandu and had gone to the U.S. a few months ago with his wife and two sons.

Earlier on Thursday, Pawan Kumar Malla, former assistant sub-inspector of Nepal Police, died of the coronavirus disease in New York. Malla, 45, died while he was in isolation at his Woodside-based rented room, according to his relatives.

Sonam Lama, Thokme Bista and Ajayman Chhochu also succumbed to the deadly virus in New York on April 5.
