NRNA meeting with the Chief Election Commissioner: Voting Rights for Nepalis Abroad


Kathmandu, – Chief Election Commissioner of Election Commission Dinesh Thapalia has held a meeting with the technical group of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) regarding the online voting system in federal election.

Chief Election Commissioner Thapalia has said that Election Commission is positive towards online voting system can be used in coming federal election. In a meeting with the technical group of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) along with the delegation of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), Thapalia reminded that the Supreme Court mandate ensured the right of Nepali living abroad to vote. The commission also said that suggestions have been collected to ensure the voting rights of Nepalis living abroad and to make it more manageable. NRNA President Badri KC said that the Election Commission can also use the apps made for NRNA elections. Political parties have repeatedly promised suffrage to Nepali citizens living abroad time and again but have not taken definite measures to actually allow them to vote. Federal elections are expected to be held in Nepal in November.
