The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) has informed that a total of 429,705 people have been inoculated against COVID-19 in first phase of the nation-wide vaccination drive which started on January 27.
The second phase of the vaccination drive is scheduled to begin from March 7.
In a press briefing organized by MoHP, the Head of Child Health and Immunization Branch, Dr Jhalak Gautam, said that all the citizens above the age of 55 will be vaccinated against coronavirus from March 7.
During the second phase of the campaign, university professors, teachers and staff; public transport drivers and their helpers; lab technicians along with owners and staffers of pharmacies will also be vaccinated.
Dr Gautam said that the people who received the first dose of the vaccine will be given the second dose at least eight weeks after the first jab and the details of schedule for second dose of vaccination will be made public soon.
He also urged the public to receive the vaccine with confidence stating that the Covishield vaccines are safe and effective.
