Inflation Jumps To 7.11 Per Cent


The consumer price inflation has increased significantly during the first five months of the current fiscal year 2021/22.
According to the current macroeconomic and financial report published by the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) on Thursday, the year-on-year (y-o-y) consumer price inflation stood at 7.11 per cent in the first five month of the current fiscal year compared to 2.93 per cent a year ago.

Food and beverage inflation stood at 5.67 per cent whereas non-food and service inflation stood at 8.25 per cent in the review month.
The price of ghee and oil, transportation, pulses and legumes, education and tobacco products sub-categories rose by 28.52 per cent, 16.25 per cent, 11.79 per cent, 11.78 per cent and 11.74 per cent respectively on y-o-y basis.

In the review month, the Kathmandu Valley, Terai, Hill and Mountain recorded 5.91 per cent, 7.52 per cent, 6.95 per cent and 4.91 per cent inflation respectively.
Inflation in these regions was 3.71 per cent, 2.35 per cent, 3.95 per cent and 4.22 per cent respectively a year ago.
The y-o-y wholesale price inflation stood at 7.22 per cent in the review month compared to 7.46 per cent a year ago, said the NRB.
