Nepal government has provided a green signal to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) for the signing of separate bilateral air service agreements with the United States and Switzerland.
Spokesperson for the CAAN, Jagannath Niraula informed that the approval would facilitate two-way flights directly with the US and Switzerland.
International airlines have been operating Nepal-US flights through various transits. The signing of the agreement will pave the way for Nepali and international airlines, to operate direct flights between Nepal and US.
Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA), in coordination with the CAAN, had submitted a proposal to the cabinet after the growing interest of the US and Switzerland in direct flights to/from Nepal.
Nepal has already signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for air connectivity with Switzerland the previous month.
Although Nepal has direct flight agreements with 40 countries, regular flights are operated in only 20 countries.
