Paragliding athlete Nisim Thapa’s statue to be constructed at Pokhara Stadium

A statue of Nisim Thapa, a paragliding athlete who died in an accident during the 9th National Games, will be installed in the Pokhara stadium in his memory.

National Sports Council (NSC) Secretary Tanka Lal Ghising informed that the 115th board meeting of the NSC held on Wednesday evening decided to erect a statue in honor of the player who lost his life during the competition.

According to Ghising, apart from the insurance, the board meeting has also recommended the Council of Ministers give relief to the deceased players from the government. All players have life insurance of NRs. 1 million in the National Games.

On October 16, while competing in the cross-country category of paragliding, Nisim Thapa, who was playing for the Nepal Army Club, died in an accident in Sarangkot after falling 100 meters from the sky.

Paragliding has been banned all over Nepal in the wake of the incident and a probe committee is investigating into the matter.
