Covid patient sent home after report mix-up in Dhulikhel Hospital

A 24 year old female from Banepa Municipality-10 was reportedly sent home despite testing positive for COVID-19 after her report got mixed with another person with the same name and age.

Dipak Dahal, Information Officer of Dhulikhel Hospital, said that the report of two ladies got exchanged after their names and age group matched. He accepted that the report was sent without looking into their addresses.

The person who tested positive for COVID-19 was sent home, whereas the person who tested negative continued her quarantine.

She was staying in quarantine while she obtained the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test report. She was sent home after testing negative for the virus.

Later, it was found out that she had tested positive for the virus. After realising the mix-up, six members of her family are being kept in isolation and contact-tracing is ongoing.

Swab sample of the lady was collected on 11th day of being placed in quarantine after she had returned from Kuwait.

Banepa Municipality said that she was sent home on the basis of the PCR test report provided by the hospital.
